Turn to the Counselling Centre if you are seeking greater self-understanding, wish to improve your relationships, or need support during difficult life situations. We offer counselling in a non-judgmental and confidential environment.
Our areas of support:
Psychological Counseling
Psychological Counseling – support for mental health concerns, self-exploration and gaining clarity, coping with various life crises and developmental challenges, and individual counselling on family and relationship issues.
Couple and Family Therapy
Family therapy is an evidence-based form of therapy that can be carried out with individuals, couples, families, and various relational networks (such as friendships, workplace relationships, and the client’s wider community).
Individual family therapy can be helpful when family dynamics affect the client, but they do not yet feel ready to involve other family members in therapy.
Couples therapy can support new relationships by helping to prevent problems from building up. In situations of conflict or misunderstanding, a couples therapist creates a safe environment where partners can express their concerns calmly, reduce tension in the relationship, and help prevent separation. Therapy is often beneficial when conflicts are recurring, or when a family member is experiencing anxiety, depression, behavioural difficulties, or unexplained physical symptoms. Even couples who have decided to separate can benefit from family therapy, as it helps them remain cooperative and respectful as parents.
Family therapy can also be an effective way for adults to work through and improve relationships with their parents and family of origin. It is helpful for families who need support related to children, as well as for anyone wishing to improve their relationships with loved ones—whether in a couple relationship, a parent–child or parent–teen relationship, an adult’s relationship with their parents, relationships with extended family members, or friendships.
Premarital Counselling
Premarital counselling is intended for couples at the beginning of their relationship and for those preparing to make one of the most important decisions in life. It offers an opportunity to explore important topics from perspectives that couples may not naturally consider during the early, romantic stage of a relationship.
These topics may include attitudes towards money, effective communication, conflict resolution, the role and influence of family of origin, family traditions, sexuality, expectations for living together, and decision-making within the relationship.
Premarital counselling helps build a stronger foundation for the relationship and supports couples in preventing disagreements from escalating into major conflicts.
Initial Legal Aid for Low-Income Clients
We provide support for initial legal counselling. Access to legal counselling requires prior contact with a support person or a local congregation.
Pastoral Counselling
Pastoral counselling draws on both psychology and theology. This means that, alongside a psychological approach, topics can also be explored from a theological perspective.
Pastoral counselling uses principles of solution-focused brief therapy, as well as active listening, reflection, and helping clients recognise their own resources and strengths.
You are welcome to seek pastoral counselling if you need support in times of crisis, grief, self-exploration, or when trying to make sense of a specific life situation.
You can reach us if you want to gain clarity about yourself, strengthen your relationships, or need support during life’s crises. We offer counseling in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment.

Maire Latvala
I earned a PhD in theology from the University of Tartu in 2012, focusing on pastoral care. I am a certified pastoral care worker and chaplain (level 7). In addition, I have studied family therapy and am currently completing advanced training in family psychotherapy. Since 2016, I have been providing couples and family therapy, while my work in pastoral care goes back more than two decades.
I serve as an ordained minister in the Estonian Methodist Church and as an associate professor of practical theology at the Theological Seminary of the Estonian Methodist Church. Together with my husband, I am raising two sons.
You are welcome to come if you need support in self-discovery, navigating difficult relationships, caring for a child, facing mental health challenges, or going through crisis or grief.
I offer counseling in Estonian and English, and can also provide support in Finnish and Russian when needed.
Kaisa Põld
I graduated from the University of Tartu in 2005 with a degree in social work and a minor in psychology, and I have also completed training in family therapy. Over the years, I have worked as a social worker, family counselor, and family therapist in various institutions, as well as in private practice. Since 2025, I have been serving as a family therapist at the Sõbralt Sõbrale Counseling Center. I am married, a mother of four daughters, and a Christian.
Life brings different challenges at different stages, and sometimes we all need support to face them. What happens within a family affects every member, and building harmony requires everyone’s participation. I believe that every person and every family carries resources and strengths that can help them through even the most difficult times.
I offer counseling in Estonian and English.
Riinu Nurme
I hold a master’s degree in law from the University of Tartu. In my thesis, I focused on legal proceedings concerning parental custody and the internationally recognized principles of children’s rights. At the Sõbralt Sõbrale Counseling Center, I primarily provide legal advice in family law, social law, labor law, and contract law. My goal is to support people in finding sustainable solutions to their concerns, working together with state support systems, specialists, and local churches when needed.
I offer legal advice in Estonian and English.

Alates 2023. aastast olen kogemusnõustajate koja liige. Teemad, millega saan toeks olla, on järgmised: ärevus, enesehinnang, noorte emade ja õpetajate pinged. Mul on magistrikraad muusikapedagoogikas ning olen aasta jooksul läbinud mitmeid nõustamisalaseid koolitusi. Olen abielus, väikese tütre ema ning Tartu Kolgata koguduse liige.

Aili Roosimaa
I graduated from the University of Tartu with a degree in English Philology, with a minor in Psychology. I have completed a pastoral care course and worked as a counselor as a church pastor. Working as a school teacher, I see how deeply relationships within the family affect children’s well-being. Relationship issues have been a concern of mine for many years, which is why I am currently training as a family therapist.
I am married, a mother of three adult children, and I also have experience raising children abroad, where my family lived together for ten years.
I believe that change is possible – and that it often happens more easily when someone is there to support me.
I offer family counseling, couples therapy, and premarital counseling. I also work as a therapist with my husband Tõnis – our joint sessions as a couple create an opportunity to observe and support relationships in a more diverse way.
I offer counseling in Estonian and English.
Tõnis Roosimaa
I have graduated from the Estonian Free Church Theological Seminary in theology and the Estonian School of Diplomacy. I am currently training as a family therapist at the Estonian School of Family Therapy.
In the meantime, I have also completed a course in pastoral care and worked for years as a counselor as a church minister – both in Estonia and Asia. This has given me extensive experience in understanding and supporting families with different cultural backgrounds.
I offer family counseling both individually and together with my wife Aili as a co-therapist. You can get a closer idea of us if you search for “relationship help” shows on YouTube.
I believe that coming to therapy is a smart step – consciously investing in your relationships to identify and change difficult relationship patterns. I see that relationships can always be improved.
Coming to therapy does not mean that you have failed – rather, it is a sign of genuine caring.
The working languages are Estonian and English.
